I place no claim on an expertise of women’s fashion – men’s either for that matter – but I feel that I have a certain understanding of style. I know the business of coordinating a look, have a solid grasp on color, fit and texture. When it comes to women’s fashion I know what I like and what I think looks good. However, describing that style is something altogether different, and usually difficult.
However, last fall I started to take notice women around my SoHo office wearing menswear inspired clothing in a cute androgynous sort of way. I thought to myself, finally a women’s trend I can appreciate. And the good news is, the look continues to appear this fall. The ladies at the Vancouver boutique Lark have it down to a science, as does Hollister Hovey and Boy by Band of Outsiders. Men’s inspired women’s clothing with the perfect amount of femininity. Sign me up.

I want to say the trend originated with one person, Janelle Monae. I don’t know if she started it, but she definitely made it popular with the younger crowd.

Hey there. New reader to your blog and love it so far. On Hypebeast I just read that there will be a Dior Homme for Girls line coming out (in Japan I believe) this Winter. I thought that was fitting additional info. No pics of the collection yet, but I’m sure Kris will do well.
